I have a lot of things to be thankful for… one is for my church and church family. I have attended Blackhawk Ministries(formerly Blackhawk Baptist) in Fort Wayne, Indiana since I can remember(age 2 or 3?). My parents attended Emmanuel Baptist then became members at Blackhawk Baptist in the 1980’s. I also attended Blackhawk Christian K-12. So Blackhawk is my second home 🙂
My dad(Mike Stevens), has been a the head greeter/usher since I can remember. Not to get too nostalgic on you, but I have so many fond memories of serving as an usher during The Living Christmas Tree performances in my black suit at Blackhawk Baptist(and in previous years as a child, I was part of the LCT performances with the kids choir). It was a great time of service and bonding with my dad. Many of those same greeters still serve today, 15+ years later!
Each year, Blackhawk wants to take time to thank the greeters with an appreciation dinner. These greeters and bus drivers who serve each Sunday are such an important part of the body here at Blackhawk. They do many things behind the scenes that no one really sees. They are the first to greet you Sunday mornings – with a smile and a handshake or hug. They are also the first to greet any newcomer and help them navigate the building. You know what they say about first impressions… and I am proud to say that our greeters go above and beyond to be the light of Jesus. THANK YOU! Also, BIG THANKS to my Dad who serves above and beyond each Sunday and throughout the week. He puts 110% into his service at Blackhawk and into the greeters. He is one of those humble-behind-the-scenes people that has such an impact that usually goes unnoticed and very rarely thanked(100% volunteer position). There are many people, volunteers, at Blackhawk with those same qualities. Volunteers who serve to make Blackhawk a better place, a welcoming place, a place of grace and a place of light and life! THANK YOU! If you call Blackhawk home, I would encourage yo to use your God-given gifts to find an area to serve at Blackhawk – greet, help in children’s ministry, serve as a camera operator, help prepare for communion, make a meal for a funeral… the list goes on 🙂
“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”
1 Peter 4:10(NLT)
The evening was filled with fun and laughter! Greeters, I hope you know how much the church appreciates you and your kindness not go unnoticed!
A few of the greeters shared their testimony. It was a wonderful time of reflection and encouragement.
The photo booth was the highlight of the night! What a fun group of friends! Here are just a few…
